Your classroom website showcases many of the activities that both teachers and their students do each day in class, as well as provides many informative and resourceful links to curriculum and other learning activities. I decided to start this list to highlight all of the many classroom sites I have seen in my years of experience with classroom website building. Feedback from Fellow Educators

Dear Marie,

Recently doing a search for ideas on nightly reading for my first grade students, I came across your website-what a wonderful site you have.  It has inspired me to create one that is as informative as yours for my parents.  May I copy your behavior management program?  I would like to put it in place next year.

Thanks again for sharing your procedures for others to use as their models.

I just want to thank you for making an absolutely wonderful website.  I am a 4th year teacher who teaches 2nd and 3rd grade (I have also taught a combined 1st and 2nd grade class).  Your website has helped me find resources and confirmed that I am doing some things right(by looking at what you are doing!).  I already have ideas with how to improve my class from your site.

Thanks!

Good Morning,

I am a teacher at Gates Chili Central School District; I was looking for a math race this morning, and I stumbled upon your site. I just want to say WOW. Marie,

I saw your website through Eduhound.  What a wonderful job you did on this!  I loved all your links for subject areas!  What fun!  What a great idea--your STAR books--great organization!

I was a long-term sub in 3rd grade 2 years ago and absolutely loved it.  I'm currently subbing and working on my Master's in Early Childhood.  I can hardly wait to get back in the classroom fulltime!

You have an excellent website with many valuable resources. We are doing a family math presentation at Minetto and I would like to put your website down as a resource. Is this OK with you?

Hi Marie!

My name is Katie and I am a first year first grade teacher.  I have got to compliment you on your site... it is awesome and I someday hope to have a classroom site as great as yours!!!! I am loving every minute of it so far! I was trying to download the things that come with your Sub binder but I was having no luck off of the website. I was wondering if you would be willing to attach them to an e-mail for me. I found so many great resources on your website and I cannot wait to adapt them for my first graders! I love your S.T.A.R. books too; I have been looking for one that works in my class and I think I might have found the one to use in the Fall.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi, Marie!

I found your site along one of those “trails” we follow as we diverge from our original search!  Don’t you love those “trails”?!  You find the neatest things when you just surf!

I love your site.  I, too, am a teacher and am in the process or recreating our classroom website.  I love the way you have done your birthday page, adding a “quiz” at the end.  I followed your link to JavaScript, but could not find the application.  I also checked under “source” to see if it was named in your html, but could not find it there either.  Would you be able to tell me the exact name of the script so that I could find it, or just email the script to me in a Word or Notepad document?  I would really appreciate it.  I love it when I see teachers doing something different that challenges me to do the same.  Thanks for the challenge! I look forward to hearing from you!

Have a wonderful summer.
Dianne

Hi!

I am Monica.  I teach in Virginia.  I am switching to third grade next year.  I haven’t been in third grade since I student taught 16 years ago (YIKES).  Your website has been so helpful to me.  It has made my mind race with ideas.  I LOVE teaching as well.  I know I was put on this earth to teach.

I would love permission to use your S.T.A.R. notebook idea with a few modifications. I teach in a small private school where our children start switching classes and using lockers in 5th grade.  It is sometimes overwhelming for the children; forgetting things, losing items, etc.  I think your idea would help with this anxiety.

Thanks for ALL the help I gained from your website.

Sincerely,
Monica

I have to comment on your web page. It is one of the best teacher web sites I have ever seen. I have downloaded some of your information as I also use the STAR binder in my classroom. Thank you so much for creating such a useful and exciting web site!

Ms. Smith,

I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciated seeing your great ideas on your website.  I loved how you organized your S.T.A.R. book.  I am planning on using the book this school year and am very excited.  I wanted to share a great website with you called donorschoose.org

This website is great because you are able to submit mini-proposals for items you may want for your classroom.  It literally takes 10 minutes to write what you want and how it will be used. I actually wrote a proposal for S.T.A.R. book materials and it got funded. Check it out.  Thanks!

Hi Marie,

My name is Laura.  I am a first year teacher and will begin teaching in the fall.  I was looking on your website and loved the STAR books!  I know you said you use a three ring binder, but what type of folders to you put inside the three ring binder?  If you could let me know that would be wonderful.  Thank you so much!

Laura

Your site is fantastic!  I would really like a copy of your class handbook. I also wanted to know if you think 2nd graders could do S.T.A.R. binders? I'm going to do centers for the first time this year, do you have any suggestions.  I taught 3rd grade in summer school, so I know a lot of the same ideas work for each grade level. I've been teaching for 15 years, but I'm always interested in new ideas.  My daughter will graduate in Dec. to begin her teaching career.

I've also found another site that you might be interested in www.mrs.carosclass.com It is excellent, too. My school is a Title l school in Abilene, Texas. After August 27th, when our school year starts back, you can go to our school website by either going to www.abileneisd.org and then going to schools to Bowie to campus website or www.abileneisd.org/schools/bowie.asp to campus website, it was down when I checked it just now, but it will be up and running by August 27th.  We also have a lot of good links.

Thank you,

Dear Mrs. Smith,

I was doing a search on writer's workshop tonight and found your site. WHAT A BLESSING! THANK YOU! I am teaching 2nd grade this year for the first time, and found your site to be so encouraging! I feel like I can do writer's workshop now!

I will be teaching with 3 veteran teachers, who seem to have all of their ducks in a line! I feel very pressured to try and do all the "stuff" that they are doing (in reality, I realize that's not going to happen this year!).

I appreciate your willingness to share your wonderful ideas AND templates! What a lifesaver!

 Thank you soooooooooo much!

Ms. Smith,

My name is Caitlin and I am currently enrolled at the University of  Alabama in Huntsville.  I am graduating in May with my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. Anyhow, I came across your website when I was doing some research for my classes and I wanted to let you know how wonderful it is.  I love how you have everything arranged and explained in great detail.  This is a great resource, especially to me as an upcoming teacher looking for ideas and strategies to begin my own classroom.  I have saved your site and hope that you would not mind if I shared it with my
classmates.  I hope that your new school year is off to a great start, or will have a great start if you have not yet started.  Thank you for the work you put into this site and all the excellent ideas and strategies it presents!

Hi Ms. Smith,

I just came across your wonderful website as I was looking for teaching ideas and I just had to email you to say that I think the S.T.A.R. books are such a fantastic idea.  I am an elementary teacher in Ireland (we say primary school teacher) and I think I will start using these with my class as soon as possible.  Thanks for sharing your great ideas, your class must love coming to school!

P.S. can you tell me the name of any website that sells the zippered pouches you use for your S.T.A.R. bucks pouch? Thank you.

Dear Ms. Smith,

I am a 2nd grade teacher on Long Island, and was looking for an easy way to begin a more simple approach to writers workshop. I teach an inclusion class and wanted to have specific guidelines set up and your website is absolutely wonderful.  Thank you so much. I hope you don't mind that I borrowed it all!

I absolutely love your webpage!  I am also a third grade teacher in Highland, IN.  I was wondering if you could help me get started.  It looks like an easy way to keep the parents and students informed!  I know it is not easy to set up, but I am sure once you do that, then adding to it is simple.  PLEASE, can you help me set up a fabulous site like yours?  Are there templates?  How did you set up your home page?--

Ms. Smith,

I'm an elementary education student at State University College at Oneonta.  I was browsing the Internet to learn more about NYS Standards to help my roommate with a research paper.  Your website helped so much that I had to e-mail it to my literacy teacher.  I asked her to please show your page on standards when she covers this topic next semester.  She loved it and had me present my findings to the class this morning.  Aside from explaining NYS Standards, your website offers so much to teachers and teacher candidates.  I just wanted to let you know how amazing I found your website to be.  I also distributed your website address to my class so they are able to use it in the future.

Thank you,

Hi Marie,

A few weeks ago I came across your website and placed it in my "favorites" listing.  I came into school on a Saturday to update my grading for report cards.  Of course I take "101 side trips" and one was to view your web site.  It's fantastic to say the least!  You have a lot of information that has proven helpful to me.

Thanks again for sharing such a fabulous web site!

Dear Mrs. Smith,

My name is Ashley and I am a recent graduate from St. Joseph's in Patchogue on Long Island, where I earned my teaching degree. I have yet to find a job but to keep up my hopes and to get ideas for when I do finally acquire a job, I look on other teacher's pages. I must say that I was so excited when I came across your page. I loved all of your ideas, especially the S.T.A.R. book. It is so nice to see all of the time you put in to make all of the templates and to personalize all of the children's belongings. Seeing ideas and rooms like yours only makes me more determined to find a job to be a great teacher like you look like you are. Thanks for the great ideas and the inspiration!!

Marie,

I came across your web-site when googling "status of the class charts" for Writer's Workshop.  I am a first year teacher - starting in the fall '09 and am planning and preparing for the coming school year and felt like I hit the jack pot when I found your website.  What amazing organizational skills you have!  I will be the 3rd and 4th grade Writing Specialist at Cedar Ridge Elementary in Cedar Hills, Utah.

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thanks!

Good morning! I just wanted to tell you how much my fellow second grade teachers like your spelling dictionary. We would very much like to print a copy or two for each of our classrooms. However, the A page seems to be missing. Would you, by chance, be willing to attach a copy of it in an e-mail to me so that I may print it out?  Thank you so very much!

I just wanted to let you know I love your website!  I teach a 2nd/3rd grade class in Dalton, Georgia and I am always looking for cool ideas to use in our classroom.  The STAR program you use for behavior and such, is that a program or something you created on your own? (Love it) Have a great weekend!

Hello Ms. Smith,

I have just spent a great deal of time looking at your wonderful website.  All I can say is WOW!  I am a 3rd grade teacher as well.  Next year will be my 7th year teaching but only my 2nd year in 3rd grade.  I just love the systems you have designed for your classroom and was hoping to get your permission to use some of your templates for my own use.  I am sure that is why you have linked them on your site, but I always think it's a good idea to ask and then credit the wonderful source.  Just reading your site and your hearing about your classroom systems have helped grow me as a teacher.  Thank you for the time and energy you put into this, I have really learned a lot.

 Sincerely,

Hello, my name is Sandra and I am a fellow third grade teacher. I will be teaching the third for the second time this fall. I am definitely nervous and want to do the best job possible as I feel that it is my duty as their teacher. I have been online the past few days looking for ideas and inspiration for my classroom and came upon your website. I am in complete awe! I can only wish to one day have a "virtual" classroom like yours. I would love to be able to contact you occasionally and get some feedback from you if possible. Please let me know if that's okay.
Thank you,

Sandra

Hi,

My name is Ginger.  I am sure you get lots of emails about your awesome website and your class.  I am another admirer.  I will be teaching third grade for the first time this year.  I am fascinated by all you do, your organization skills, your S.T.A.R. books, the whole to-do.  Do you mind telling me what the letters and numbers are on your schedule board (D 1)?  Also, do you change your schedule each day on the board to match what activities will take place that day?  One more:  What exactly do you use for your morning messages?  I can’t thank you enough for sharing.  You have really alleviated a lot of my worries!

Thanks so much, Ginger (Hogansville, GA)

Hi! My name is Leslie, and I just happened to stumble upon your very valuable website! I am a new teacher who will be teaching a second- and third-grade multi-age classroom in the fall. I love a lot of your teaching ideas, and I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful it is for you to share your time-tested ideas with those of us who are just beginning!

Anyway, I absolutely loved a lot of the clip art that you use on your forms, particularly, the ones found on the parent letter about the S.T.A.R. Book and the Unity poem. Would you be interested in sharing where you found the images? I would truly appreciate it!

Thanks! I hope you have a great day and enjoy your summer!

Two VERY BIG thumbs-up. :) I love this website so much, I don't know where to start in my explanation!

#1- I admire your website very, very much. You are featured at http://www.teachingvision.org/classrooms.html. Some of you already know me; however, this is an e-mail to most of the teacher sites I admire. You may hear a lot that teachers love your website, but it's still great to know you have touched someone with your efforts. :)

#2- Thank you for very much inspiring me to go farther with my website.

Hi! First, let me say that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your site! You have so many great ideas and I’m tickled that you were willing to share them! I’m a 2nd grade teacher and I love to check out ideas from other teachers that I might be able to use in my classroom.  I was wondering if you could tell me where you purchased or how you made your stars for your star studded behavior pocket chart.  I need to try something more positive in my classroom and I love your idea!

Thanks for your time and thanks again for sharing!

Ms. Smith,

I was just hired as a third grade teacher three weeks before school is about to start.  This will be my first teaching job.  I’m feeling very overwhelmed, but your website really informed and inspired me.  I just wanted to let you know that.

Thank You for sharing your experiences and resources!
Amanda

Marie,

I hope this finds you well, I'm sure your probably getting ready for the new school year.  As our year has just started I was thinking about how wonderfully you responded to our Flat Stanley Project that my Aunt Dewey passed along.  All of our 65 students ooohed and ahhed over the pictures... and so did I.  You really went above and beyond for us.

Just today I realized that I may not have thanked you.  I know that I talked to my aunt about it but I couldn't remember if I had emailed you.  Well, better late than never.  THANK YOU!!  We had so much fun learning about your school and seeing how different it was  compared to ours.

I have also been checking out your web page.  What an inspiration!  I love all of the information on China since that is the country we are studying this year.  I will probably be using your page this year as a resource!

Enjoy the rest of the summer!!

 Sincerely,

Dear Mrs. Smith,

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing all of your wonderful printables in cyber space. I don't know if your intentions were to help teachers as well as your families but they have helped me tremendously. I have been teaching for 20 years and I somehow stumbled onto your site last year. What a difference some of your ideas have made in my classroom! I felt more prepared and organized than I have ever felt. So with school starting tomorrow and my printables in tow I am feeling really prepared and excited. I just thought I should say a little thank you for being so generous to other teachers.

Sincerely,

Hi Ms.Smith,

I absolutely love your quick word dictionary!  I was viewing it on your site, and noticed a few groups of letters missing.  Is there a possibility that I could gain a revised copy of this?  Your web site is WONDERFUL!  Thank you for sharing!!

Thank you,
Suzette

Ms. Smith - I just had to write and tell you how impressed I was with your web site, and also how helpful the information on Writer's Workshop was to me!  I am a 6th grade teacher at McCracken Middle School in Bluffton, instituting Writer's Workshop for the first time in my language arts classes.  The links, forms, and templates just made my life infinitely easier! Best wishes to you, and thank you again.

Hello Mrs. Smith,

I teach 3rd grade and absolutely love your website.  I have used several of your ideas and I feel much more organized and able to involve parents more easily.  I have a question about the clip art or graphics section.

Michelle Leingang

Mrs. Smith

I first want to thank you for everything you have provided me with on your website as a first year teacher.  I have modified many of your ideas for my class.  You have many helpful tools and I appreciate the fact that you are willing to share it on the web.

I am originally from Western New York in Allegany County.  Your website really caught my eye when I saw Red Creek because my step father attended Red Creek Central school.  I just recently finished my master's in literacy and moved to Rowan County North Carolina where I am teaching third grade.  Your website has really helped me with learning how to manage my class and run some of my lessons, but I am still struggling with some aspects.  Although I know many teachers could offer me good advise at my school, I really like the way you manage your classroom, the ideas you have about teaching, and the organization I can see you have from information provided on your website.

If you have any free time to answer questions I have noticed that we are using the same reading series and I would love to know how you run your literacy block.  Although we are not a reading first school we still use the Houghton Mufflin series.

I am also struggling with managing writer's workshop smoothly.  I have used all of the resources you provided on your website, but I still wonder what students should be doing when they finish early.  Do you have them write about the next topic on their list? What do you do so that students are not interupting you while you are conferencing with other students? Do you give them a lesson on how to peer conference?  I guess I struggle to see a clear picture of what writer's workshop should look like.

I completely understand if you do not have the time to write back.  Most importantly I wanted to say thank you for sharing your ideas.  You show the work of a truly wonderful teacher and a teacher I want to work to become.

Thank You-
Ashley

I still like to visit class sites created by smart teachers and I am a retired teacher. I suppose it is because I had one for so many years as a teacher. Enjoyed my visit!

Marie,

I have just spent well over an hour perusing your website!!!  It is wonderful!!  I am a teacher in Dallas, TX.  I taught for 31 years, retired and worked as an educational consultant...but couldn't STAND being out of the teacher role, so I'm back this year!!!  I'm teaching in a private school and loving every minute of being "back home" in the classroom again!!

Thank you so very much for such a wonderful website!!

Just wanted to drop a note to let you know I LOVE your site! I just finished my first year of teaching and would have loved to have your site before I started. All of your stuff is so easy to follow and having pictures and links helps a new teacher so much. I have sent your site address to my 3rd grade team and hope they will want to use some of it too!

I will be implementing the writers workshop this fall for the first time in this grade and cannot wait to try out all of the neat tools you have put together.

Thank you again from another Mrs. Smith

My name is Karen and I found your page (http://www2.rccsd.org/MSmith/ScienceFireSafety.htm) while researching some fire safety information. I'm a science teacher and we're always trying to educate the students about chemical and fire safety. Your page had a lot of information so I wanted to say thanks for putting it together!

I also wanted to pass along a great page that I think you should add to your resource list: http://www.guardianinsurance.com.au/ArticleLibrary/Ultimate-Guide-Fire-Safety.aspx It's got a huge list of tips and links about fire safety geared towards kids. Thanks again :)

Best,
Karen

Hi Marie,

My name is Katie and I am currently working with my collaboration teacher, Holly. I just wanted to thank you for your wonderful website. I used the S.T.A.R. Books and love that whole process. You are an amazing teacher. We are now going to tackle a Student Handbook. Thank you for your wonderful ideas!

Enjoy the rest of your summer-
Katie and Holly

Hi,

I don't mean to be a bother but I wanted to provide some feedback on your page: (http://www2.rccsd.org/MSmith/Math.htm) It provides excellent information and I've incorporated it into a couple Elementary Math lesson plans as a reference for my students to utilize- thank you.

I came across another page during my research and wanted to point it out because I thought you may want to take advantage of it as an addition to your page: (http://www.barcodesinc.com/articles/math-logic-problems.htm) Its a very resourceful/informative page for not only elementary students, but people of all ages which I appreciated. Just wanted to pass it along.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the inspiration your class web page has given me as a teacher.  You are obviously a wonderful teacher and I have so enjoyed looking at the way you organize your room with such purpose.  I am teaching 3rd grade for the first time this year and I have been encouraged and very inspired by the way you run your classroom.

Keep up the great work, your students are blessed to have such an awesome teacher.
