The Six Banyan Temple was originally built in 537, but has be rebuilt since then. It is a very popular Buddhist Temple in Guangzhou.

The Six Banyan Pagoda holds many Buddhist relics. The roof curves upwards and looks like dark red flower petals. The tips of the pagoda are like stamens, while the whole construction looks like a huge stigma high in the air. Called the Flowery Pagoda, it stands 184 feet tall, with 9 stories.

We were told that if we stood back and threw a penny into the whole in this joss stick burner it would bring us luck. Of course we all tried...and tried...and tried!!!

These three big copper Buddhist statues are among the biggest and most ancient Buddhist statues in Guangdong. The middle one is Sakyamuni, to the left, the Amitabha and to the right, the Apothecary Buddha. They stand for present, past and future.

Burning joss sticks is a big event when visiting the temple.

Notice the offerings to this Buddha. Apples, orange slices, a variety of nuts, a fruit we didn't recognize...and Coke!

We watched a wonderful Buddhist ceremony performed for all of the adoptive children and their parents.

Can you hear me now???
