Poetry Portfolio Suggested Efficiency Plan

 

Complete your work in the following suggested order:

See the "week by week" general plan

Throughout this adventure, take notes along the way for your final reflective essay. A paragraph each day in your journal is fine.

 

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”

1.	Find 3-4 poems you like...write in your journal

2.	Work on your “Thoughts about Poetry” essay...write in your journal

3.	Choose a theme, discuss it with your teacher, and find the rest of your 12-14 poems...write in your journal

4.	Find 5 biographies (2 or more sources each)...write in your journal

5.	Write your bibliographies: Source page for poems and works cited page for biographical information...write in your journal

6.	Begin writing your biographies. Make sure you are taking notes in your journal.

7.	Select 8-10 forms of poetry that are interesting to you, copy and print directions…write in your journal

8.	Select 5 sound elements and 5 figurative elements and make sure you have clear definitions of each. 

9.	Begin writing rough drafts of examples for the ten elements. Write in your journal.

10.	Begin a rough table of contents...write in your journal

11.	Begin composing your original form poems (related to your theme)...write in your journal

12.	Retype the published poems exactly as they appeared where you found them...write in your journal

13.	Insert your explanations in text boxes...write in your journal

14.	Finish your biographies with in-text citations...write in your journal

15.	Find graphics for your poems, fill out half sheets for your art sources – write in your journal.

16.	Type your criticism...write in your journal

17.	begin working on laying out your poem pages, including explanations for how the artwork fits the poem.

18.	Continue to write and revise your own poems...write in your journal

19.	Revise your “Thoughts on poetry” exercise...write in your journal

20.	Finalize your own poems; be sure you have definitions of form, artwork and art explanation...write in your journals.

21.	Write your preface (introduction)...write in your journal

22.	Finalize the layout process - Locate and insert relevant graphics and explanations for ALL POEMS, published and yours...write in your journal

23.	Design your cover sheet...write in your journal

24.	Draft, revise, and finalize your reflective essay

25.	Print and organize

26.	Fill out the checklist and be sure to include it in the back of your portfolio.


Note: if you finish early, your teacher can check over your portfolio to make sure you are on target for a good grade! This is the most awesome idea ever. Seriously. It is.
