Task ONE directions

1. Use the following links to gather a list of types of poetry and definitions ( Once you start finding definitions, you may want to do some copying and pasting into Microsoft Word):

2.With your partner, choose 26 types of poems to be explained in your booklet.  If necessary, combine your basic definitions with dictionary definitions provided by the online dictionary below:

3. Paraphrase the basic definitions and rewrite them, using the illustrated example provided by the Shadowpoetry website.

4. Look up and define 10 key elements of poetry from the following websites:

5. Create a booklet (using Microsoft Word) including the following criteria:

Front cover  with graphic, name and class information

bullet

Table of contents (list all types with page #'s)

bullet

Two sections - one for poetry types, the other for elements of poetry

bullet

List the types of poems in alphabetical order

bullet

Give poetry form definitions (in your own words) and examples on each page (one type per page)

bullet

Elements of poetry should have its own section, with definitions and examples of poetic elements. (There may be more than one per page).

bullet

Should be printed like a book: Such as landscape style with staple in the middle or another book-like format. (download one possible template to use) feel free to be creative!

WHEN Task ONE is done, move on to task TWO!

Task TWO Directions:

bullet

On your own, select five types of poems and create your own original poetry in those forms.

 

You must follow all of the rules of the conventions of those forms.

You will select two of these poems to read at a poetry reading during class.

bullet

Write a reflective essay about the process of writing the poems, in which you include information on what forms you preferred and why.

Explain why you believe that form restrictions can either add to or detract from the creative process. Use specific poetic elements form your original poems as support for your argument.

Use this quote in your essay, then state whether you agree or disagree and why:
